About Social Forestry:
The program involves the cultivation of plants, which will not only act as enduring resources but also generate long-term employment opportunities in alignment with the objectives of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Each batch of 200 plants, considered as one unit, will be linked to Beneficiaries/Van Poshak for a continuous period of 5 years. These Beneficiaries/Van Poshak will collectively oversee the nurturing of the plants in a rotational manner from the date of plantation. In return for their efforts, each Beneficiary/Van Poshak is guaranteed 100 days of employment. This symbiotic relationship between the trees and the Beneficiaries/Van Poshak fosters a profound sense of ownership. This connection significantly augments the likelihood of the plants' survival, as the individuals involved are more personally invested in the well-being and growth of the vegetation. The program thus not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also addresses economic aspects by providing stable employment opportunities and reinforcing a shared responsibility for the success of the initiative. Component No. 8 of JJHM, Bihar “सघन वृक्षारोपण एवं पौधशाला सृजन” means for Afforestation & Nursery Development.
Plantation Under Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali's through MGNREGA in Bihar:
In the verdant landscapes of Bihar, the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali (JJH) scheme has emerged as a beacon of environmental stewardship, fostering a transformative journey toward sustainable living. At the heart of this initiative lies a robust commitment to afforestation, a crucial strategy in mitigating climate change and preserving the ecological balance. The state of Bihar faces ecological challenges with its current forest cover standing at a modest 6.87%, well below the national average (19%). The Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali scheme recognizes the urgency to address this disparity, aiming to enhance green cover through strategic plantation initiatives. Under the JJH scheme, the focus is not merely on planting trees but on fostering a holistic ecosystem that contributes to the well-being of both the environment and the communities. Planting 20,000 trees per Gram Panchayat has been identified as a key milestone, with a targeted increase of 3% in Bihar's overall forest cover. This ambitious goal aligns with the broader vision of achieving a 33% forest cover, essential for maintaining ecological equilibrium. The impact of these plantations extends beyond environmental benefits. The JJH scheme ensures that each plant planted becomes a catalyst for positive change in the lives of the local communities. Sustainable employment opportunities are created for 200 families over a span of five years, injecting economic vitality into the region. Crucially, the mandate for plantation includes horticulture plants, a thoughtful choice that not only contributes to environmental conservation but also addresses nutritional security challenges faced by impoverished and malnourished families. This dual-purpose approach embodies the holistic philosophy of the JJH scheme, where ecological sustainability and human welfare are intertwined. As these saplings take root and grow, they symbolize not only a commitment to a greener future but also the resilience of Bihar in the face of environmental challenges. The Jan Jeevan Haryali scheme stands as a testament to the power of community-driven environmental initiatives, showcasing how strategic plantation efforts can pave the way for a more sustainable and prosperous tomorrow. In State of Bihar, the JJH scheme is not just about planting trees; it's about cultivating a legacy of green prosperity for generations to come.
Survival Monitoring App:
Plantations supported by the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) encompass both government-owned and privately-owned lands. In these projects, eligible households may be granted the opportunity to cultivate up to 200 trees, with a designated maintenance period not exceeding 5 years. Upon the conclusion of the maintenance period, the respective household is entitled to enjoy the benefits derived from the produced yield of the allocated trees. Monthly remuneration is contingent upon the survival of the plants and the successful completion of specified tasks. To oversee the well-being of plants planted under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), it is imperative that officials from the Panchayat, Block, and District levels visit the designated sites. During these visits, they are required to use a mobile application to document and convey the current progress and status of the schemes related to plant survival and Web Based App for generation of reports for follow up, review & taking Stock of the survival Plants. This process ensures effective monitoring and reporting on the outcomes of MGNREGA-driven plantation initiatives.
